Martial Arts

The Mahakali Martial Arts Institute the program is based on applying teaching and training methods from a blend of several Martial arts. This concept is known as Jeet Kune Do ("Way of the Intercepting Fist"), the personal combat philosophy of the late great martial arts legend Bruce Lee. JKD training emphasizes the development of proficiency and the thorough understanding of the three ranges of combat, short, medium and long-range.

The major martial art methods we teach at the Institute are:

  • Jun Fan Gung Fu/Kickboxing, the non-classical Chinese martial art that Bruce Lee taught in the 1960's. It is a blend of several martial arts including Wing Chun, Western Boxing, Fencing, Northern and Southern Gung Fu. It is also an excellent discipline for building cardiovascular endurance.
  • Filipino Kali/Escrima Pangamut, the ancient art of the Philippine Islands that promotes the understanding of the use of weaponry as a means of self-defense and developing superior body mechanics. This martial art was featured recently by actor Matt Damon in the Hollywood movie, "The Bourne Identity."
  • Muay Thai (Thai Boxing), the national art of Thailand, Muay Thai is often referred to as the "Art of Eight Weapons" - hands, elbows, knees, legs.. Although a ring sport, Muay Thai's emphasis on power, finesse, speed, and endurance make it equally effective for self-defense. It is also an excellent discipline for building cardiovascular endurance.
  • lndonesian Silat, this highly lethal art is practiced throughout Southeast Asia. While Silat offers a wide variety of combat methods, the Institute's Silat is most effective at close range.
